BIG SPRING - Abel Garcia Rios, 67 of Big Spring, died May 12, 2024 at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene. Visitation will at Myers & Smith Funeral Home, Big Spring, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., May 16. The funeral service will be May 17 at 10 a.m. at Myers & Smith Chapel followed by interment at Trinity Memorial Park.
He was born May 15, 1956, in Karnes City, to the late Alejandro Rios and Augustino Garcia.
He was raised in Stanton, where he graduated from Stanton High School. He worked as a Postman for the US Postal Service and retired in 2019. He loved sports, especially the Dallas Cowboys. A devoted family man, Abel loved watching his grandchildren compete with their teams. He wouldn’t miss a game if at all possible. He attended First Assembly-Living Waters church, Big Spring.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Armando Rios.
He is survived by three sons, Robert Rios, Jacob Rios, and Joshua Rios; a daughter, Tasha Rios; 16 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; three brothers, Alejandro “Alex” Rios, Amador Rios, and Arthur Rios; a sister, Alicia Guzman; halfsisters, Hope and Gloria; and his former wife, Leonor Rios.
