Gloria Villa Marquez died on June 4, 2025 after a long fight with congestive heart failure. She was born on March 22, 1943 in Big Spring, Texas. She was the daughter of Clemente Villa Sr and Maria Sotelo Villa and the beloved wife of the late Timoteo Marquez.
She is survived by her children, Martin and Janie Marquez, her grandchildren Stephanie Marquez, TJ Marquez, Martin “Marty” Marquez, Miranda Marquez, and Bianca Villalobos, her great-grandchildren Kyli, Emma, Timothy, Taylor, Martin, Moses, Mathias, Daniella, Abby, Aiden, Tobias, Elias, Mauricio, Andredan, Adam, Noor, and Omar, and her siblings John Villa of Austin, Texas, Dora Logan, Robert Villa, and Clemente Villa, Jr. of Stanton Texas, and Linda Ornelas Villa of Midland, Texas.
Gloria was a woman who loved with her whole heart and was loved the same way in return. Whether she was babysitting her grandchildren or great-grandchildren, helping out struggling people in her community, or cooking up a storm, she did everything with the same zest and joy and love of god she lived her life by. A straight shooter who called things as she saw them, Gloria loved to laugh. She also loved to talk-she always had a smile and a story for family, friends, and oftentimes strangers, too. She enjoyed cooking to feed her family and her community and could always be counted on to help anyone in need. She loved to spend her afternoons hanging with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, cooking her family’s favorite meals-including enchiladas, chile Colorado, and her west Texas famous Thanksgiving dressing, and could often be seen with a cup of her much loved coffee or Diet Dr. Pepper in her hand.
Gloria’s deep and abiding love for God led her to be a cursillista and she devoted her life to bringing others closer to Christ through her own example and testimony. De colores! She spent her life trying to make other people’s lives better, but she was also a life long learner who was always interested in developing new skills and learning new things. At fifty, she went back to school for a second career as a nurse and spent the next twenty years of her life working at the Stanton Hospital, doing what she has done best her entire life-taking care of people.
Gloria will be desperately missed by those she left behind. She was as beloved as she was loving and her death leaves a Momo sized hole in all of our lives.
