Dero Shaw, Jr.

BIG SPRING - Dero Shaw, Jr., 74 of Big Spring, passed away, Dec. 5, 2025. He was born Feb. 4, 1951, in Big Spring, to Verl Dero Shaw, Sr. and Lillian Faye (Witt) Shaw.

He lay in-state on Dec. 9, at Nalley-Pickle and Welch Funeral Home. The family received visitors that same day. Funeral Service was Dec.10, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel. Interment followed at Trinity Memorial Park.

Dero was a longtime member of the 14th and Main Church of Christ. He was generous to anyone who needed a helping hand. He was a cotton farmer at Knott. Dero and his cousin Kenneth Hughes went into business together raising buffalo. He later raised and sold show pigs. Dero was passionate about team roping events at rodeos. He also taught anyone who wanted to learn how to rope, even the very young nephews! Dero was giving advice to a young man in Zimbabwe while he was in the hospital.

He is survived by his son Sloan Shaw of Big Spring; sisters Angela Gillespie and Tony of Big Spring, Sheree Denny and LeRoy of Iredell;, stepsisters Marsha McHan and Mark of Abilene, Brenda Keith and Lynn of Weatherford; Uncle Ellis Witt and Bonnie of Stanton; nieces and nephews, Heath Gillespie of San Angelo, Steven Gillespie of Big Spring, Andrea Hataway and Ross of Big Spring, Brent Denny and Robin of Wimberley, and Lisa Wester and Jordan of Boerne, and numerous other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife Jeanine Shaw; parents Verl Dero Shaw, Sr. and Lillian Faye (Witt) Shaw; cousin Kenneth Hughes; and stepmother Ioma Shaw.

Dero’s dear friend, Lee Casas honored Dero’s request to officiate his funeral.
