STANTON - Darlene (Bristow) Caffey, 82 of Stanton, died early Sunday morning, Feb. 2, 2020, at her home. She was born on Apr. 12, 1937, at her parents home in Fisher County, to J.V. and Thelma Bristow. She was a graduate of Ackerly High School.
She married Woodie Caffey of Knott on Feb. 20, 1955, in Ackerly. They lived in Stanton from 1956 to 1969 before moving to Alpine to pursue college degrees at Sul Ross University. She earned a business degree and became a business and typing teacher, teaching at several schools in Texas and Oklahoma. After retiring at the age of 70, she and Woodie moved back to Stanton.
She was preceded in death by her parents J.V. and Thelma Bristow; a brother, Wayne Bristow; and a half-brother, Elmer Six.
She is survived by her husband, Woodie of Stanton and six children, son, Lynn Caffey of Fairfield; daughters, Darla Prosise of Stanton; Jana Randles of Stanton; Ronna Frusher and husband Russell of Hanston, KS; son, David Caffey and wife, Shannon of Seminole; son, Jason Caffey and wife, Nicole of Converse; as well as 11 grandchildren and 14 greatgrandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Jim Bristow and wife, Judy of Maypearl; sisters, Patsy Shaw and husband, Roosevelt of Sand Springs; sister, Linda Cowan and husband, Gordon of Ponder; sister-in-law Frances Bristow of Big Spring; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Stanton. Pallbearers will be Brandon Bristow, Burke Bristow, Jimmie Bristow, Tyler Caffey, Will Carr, Ryan Fleming, Jeff Morris and Jay Shaw. Honorary pallbearer will be Josh Thompson.
The family will receive friends from 5pm-7pm on Feb. 6 at Gilbreath Funeral Home in Stanton. Funeral service will be at 2pm Feb. 7, at First Baptist Church Stanton. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
