LAMESA - Funeral services for Mildred Leatherwood, 101 of Lamesa, will be Feb. 20, at 2 p.m. at Second Baptist Church with Pastor Tobey Clements officiating. Interment will be at Dawson County Cemetery. Visitation will follow the service at Second Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.
She died Feb. 16, 2020 in Lamesa. She was born Oct. 28, 1918, in Canadian, to Ernest and Hattie (Bussell) Lakey.
She married Custer Leatherwood Nov. 11, 1936, in Dawson County.
She worked as a seamstress at Dottie Dan and Ruth’s Draperies. Custer and Mildred worked for many years at the Bargain Shop.
She was a member of the Young at Hearts and lifetime member of Second Baptist Church.
She is survived by her children, Janice Brown of Brownwood and Dennis Leatherwood and wife Vickie of Lamesa; seven grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband; parents; daughter, Ilene Pinkerton; sister, Josie Lee Boatwright; and brothers, Howard Lakey and Everett Lakey.
The family suggests memorials to Second Baptist Church 1705 N. Bryan Avenue, Lamesa, TX 79331.
