Museum windmills receive repairs

STANTON - The Martin County Historical Museum’s two historic windmills recently received repairs to help preserve two of the county’s most recognizable landmarks.New wooden blades were installed on the Standard windmill at the museum in Stanton and the Eclipse windmill at the nearby Connell House.

Glasscock County Sheriff's Office reports June activity

GLASSCOCK COUNTY - The Glasscock County Sheriff's Office responded to 41 calls for service during the month of June while deputies also remained active with traffic enforcement throughout the county.

Martin County Historical Museum now open weekdays

STANTON - The Martin County Historical Museum is now open to the public Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is free.Visitors can explore exhibits featured in the museum's first phase of renovations that include displays and artifacts from the county's 150-year history.

Free self-defense class Aug. 8

STANTON - The Martin County Chamber will host a free self-defense class from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8.The class is open to the public. Participants can reserve a spot with a $20 refundable deposit or by calling the chamber office at 432-466-4914. Space is limited.

Free family movie night Aug. 5

STANTON - The Martin County Chamber of Commerce will host a free family movie night Wednesday, Aug. 5, at the First Methodist Activity Center (The MAC).Doors open at 6 p.m., and the movie begins at 6:30 p.m. Admission is free.

Stanton back-to-school drive to offer free haircuts Aug. 8.

STANTON - Evie's Styles and Thirsty Bird boutique will host a Back-to-School Drive from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 8 in downtown Stanton at 205 N. St. Peter St.The event will offer free haircuts for children. Families are asked to bring school supplies or hygiene essentials to receive a free haircut.

Former Stanton student begins pro baseball journey as 71st pick in MLB Draft

SHINER - Ryan Peterson’s baseball journey started in Stanton.On July 11, that journey reached another milestone when the Miami Marlins selected the former Sam Houston State pitcher with the 71st overall pick in the Major League Baseball Draft.
