Buff’s offense struggles, gets shut-out by Merkel

MERKEL – Merkel and Stanton faced off in a defensive battle last Friday and for the second straight year, Merkel beat the Buffaloes by shutout at Badger Stadium in Merkel. After last week’s offensive explosion, many had Stanton beating Merkel by a couple scores.

No. 4 Bearkats destroy Menard, 54-8

GARDEN CITY – The No.4 Garden City Bearkats were firing on all cylinders last week blowing past the Menard Yellowjackets 54-8. The Bearkats found the endzone eight times in the mercy-rule shortened game with six touchdowns through the air and the other two scores on the ground.

Wildcats fall to Bulldogs, look to bounce back against Eagles

– The Grady Wildcats opened their football season on the road against the Amherst Bulldogs in Bulldog Stadium. Despite a great effort, the Wildcats fell 32-6. “I was pleased with the way we stayed disciplined throughout most of the game,” said Grady coach Jourmain Matta.

No. 5 Bearkats rally back to stun No. 9 Valley in season opener

JAYTON – The No. 5 Garden City Bearkats overcame adversity Friday night to beat No. 9 Valley 30-26 in the Jayton Gridiron Classic. Valley is an electric team and wanted to put Garden City out early. Just 10 seconds into the game, Valley rattled off a 60-yard run for its first six points.

Stanton shines at Tall City meet

MIDLAND – Stanton junior high and high school cross country teams competed in the Tall City Invitational last weekend at Hogan Park in Midland. The varsity girls, junior high girls, and junior high boys ran two miles and the varsity boys ran 5000 meters.

Stanton crushes Grape Creek, 33-7

STANTON – It was a great night to be a Buffalo as Stanton opened the season with a crushing 33-7 victory over Grape Creek at Buffalo Stadium on Friday. Stanton’s offense looked nothing like it did in the first two scrimmages of the season.
