Coahoma wins both district track crowns

COAHOMA – The Stanton Buffalo high school track teams competed in the District 5-AAA Meet in Coahoma last week. Athletes finishing in the top four spot in the varsity division qualify to compete at Area on Apr. 21 in Sonora. In the varsity boy’s division, Coahoma won the team title with 159.

LUBBOCK - Grady senior Braden Welch finished fifth overall at the Regional Golf Tournament at Meadow Brook Golf Course in Lubbock on April 18 and 19. Welch shot a first round 84, followed by a second round 86 for a two day total of 170.

LEVELLAND - Grady’s Samantha Griffin and Chapman Sims competed in the Region I Tennis Tournamnet at South Plains College in Levelland. Both players performed admirably in their respective brackets earning the bronze medal. Griffin competed in the Girl’s Singles Bracket.

BIG LAKE - Bats were blistered in a high-scoring affair Tuesday night as the visiting Stanton High School Buffaloes defeated the Reagan County 13-8. Stanton got things started in the second inning when R. Murry was hit by a pitch, driving in a run.

REAGAN COUNTY - Stanton and Reagan County were having a good ol’ fashioned pitching duel Tuesday night, until the Owls bats came to life late in the contest. After three scoreless innings, Stanton managed a couple runners and even scooted one across the plate for a 1-0 lead.
