Bearkats win tournament Klassic title

– Last weekend was all basketball for Garden City as the varsity teams hosted the Bearkat Klassic. The boys won the team title followed by Grady and Irion County. Highland won the girls bracket followed by Irion County and Grady.

Garden City sweeps Winters

– The Garden City varsity boys and girls basketball teams picked up a trio of non-district wins Tuesday night over Class 2A Winters. The No. 9-ranked Bearkats played extremely well taking a 37-7 halftime lead and adding another 28 points in the third quarter.

Lady Cats play well in area tournaments

– The Lady Wildcats varsity basketball team has been busy the past two weekends competing in both the Tahoka and Garden City basketball tournaments and playing a scheduled game against Crane in between. Tahoka Tournament At the Tahoka tournament.

Wildcats take second in Garden City

– The Grady Wildcat’s took second place last weekend at the Garden City Bearkat Klassic. After losing their first game in pool play, Grady responded with three straight wins to earn the right the face tournament host Garden City in the championship game.

Grady continues to improve each week

– Grady’s sub varsity girls’ teams have been in action the past few weeks picking up some big wins and losing some close games. The junior varsity participated in the Wink Junior Varsity Tournament and won one game and lost two. Grady had a hard time with Wink ‘A’ falling behind early 15-2.

Lady Kats have good weekend in Lamesa

- Garden City battled some tough competition at the O.W. Folis Tournament in Lamesa last weekend. The Lady Bearkats opened the tournament with two big wins, a 54-10 beat down of Ralls and a 5131 thrashing of Class 4A Monahans. Against Ralls, Garden City had a commanding 31-6 halftime lead.

Several local athletes named academic all state

- Several athletes from around the area have been recognized by the Texas Army national Guard and the Texas High School Coaches Association as Academic All-State Recipients. The students’ performance in the classroom can sometimes be difficult to manage while participating in athletics.

Junior high Buffaloes open basketball seasons against Crane

– Stanton’s junior high girls’ basketball teams have been busy the past two weeks with games against Crane and Odessa Compass. The Lady Buffs hosted Crane last week and looked impressive in all the contests. The seventh grade A Lady Buffs demolished Crane 43-4.

- All-District football selection for District 4-3A Division II were released this week. Stanton’s lone first team selection was utility back Jahir Galindo.
